The Groundbreaker schools' programme is a key focus of the 50th commemorations and is made up of three components:

· Lesson plans for pre-primary - year 12
· Groundbreaker excursions/incursions
· Student competitions

Year 7 - 9

Competition: A Pivotal Point in the Pilbara’s History

'A pivotal point in the Pilbara's history' is a creative writing competition designed for students enrolled in years 7, 8 and 9 across the Pilbara. To be eligible, the entrant must be enrolled at one of the following participating high schools:

  • St Luke’s College
  • Tom Price Senior High School
  • Karratha Senior High School
  • Roebourne District High School

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Entrants are required to submit a story or essay that responds to the topic of 'A pivotal point in Pilbara history'.

WHEN IS IT DUE?

HOW DO I SUBMIT?

Entrants can submit their entries through their schoolteachers, or via the online form on this website in typed Word or PDF format.

Prizes

Y7-Y9 Prize

The total prize pool value is $1,549 and consists of one prize for the winner of the competition and two  runner up prizes.

  • The winner's prize will consist of: 1x iPad Air 2, Wifi, 64G valued at $729.00
  • The runner ups' prize will consist of: 1x iPad Mini 2, Wifi, 16G valued at $410

The winning student's school will automatically go into the draw to win a $10,000 innovation pack that can be spent on technology or innovative teaching material.
