Student Competitions Terms and Conditions

Pre-Primary - Year 3 ‘The Pilbara and Me’

  1. These terms and conditions (Conditions) govern the Rio Tinto (RT) ‘The Pilbara and Me’ (Competition) which is conducted by Pilbara Iron Company (Services) Pty Ltd (ABN 35 107 210 248) (RT).
  2. All entries are made upon, and subject to, these Conditions, without alteration.  Participation in the Competition is deemed acceptance of these Conditions.
  3. To the maximum extent permitted by law, RT’s decision regarding all aspects of the Competition (including, but not limited to, the marking and assessment of entries, determination of Eligible Entrants/valid entries and winners and the conduct of any draw) is final and binding.  No correspondence will be entered into.
  4. The Competition opens on Monday, 6 June 2016 and closes at 12:00am on Monday, 29 August 2016.
  5. To be eligible to validly enter the Competition, the student must:
    1. have obtained the permission of their parent or legal custodian to enter and participate in the Competition;
    2. be enrolled at Pannawonica Primary School, Wickham Primary School, Roebourne Primary School, Tom Price Primary School, Nth Tom Price Primary School, Karratha Primary School, Tambrey Primary School, Millars Well Primary School, Pegs Creek Primary School, Baynton West Primary School, Dampier Primary School or Paraburdoo Primary School (Eligible School) in grades pre-primary, 1, 2 or 3;
    3. have individually prepared their entry response;
    4. have duly completed and submitted an entry form and:
      1. attached it to their entry response (if submitting to a teacher); or
      2. submitted it online at www.riotintogroundbreakers.com; and
    5. otherwise comply with these Conditions, (Eligible Entrants).
  6. Eligible Entrants may only submit one entry. Any entry that is or may appear to be rude, obscene, defamatory or offensive must not be submitted and, if submitted, will not be valid.
  7. On or before Friday, 2 September 2016, RT will convene a panel of employees at RT’s offices located at Central Park, 52-158 St Georges Terrace, Perth 6000 WA, who will evaluate all entries submitted by Eligible Entrants to determine, by applying the relevant marking rubric, the first, second and third winners. This process will be repeated for, to select a first, second and third winner from, each Eligible School.
  8. Winners will be notified by email and/or telephone. The prize will be delivered to the winning student’s Eligible School for collection.
  9. Winners are solely responsible for the safe and proper use of their prize.
  10. By entering the Competition, each winner consents to RT using his or her name and photograph for publicity purposes. All Competition entries (including text and photos) may, to the full extent permitted by law, be freely used by RT for promotional purposes without formal acknowledgement to the owner.
  11. RT does not accept any responsibility for any late, lost, incomplete, misdirected, incorrectly submitted, delayed or ineligible entries, applications, claims or correspondence whether due to error, omission, alteration, tampering, theft, deletion, destruction, transmission, interruption, communications failure or otherwise. RT does not have any control over the internet, networks or lines and does not accept any responsibility for any problems associated with any of those things, whether due to traffic congestion, technical malfunction or otherwise.
  12. If for any reason any aspect of the Competition is not capable of running as planned including, without limitation, by reason of infection by computer virus, network failure, bugs tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any cause beyond the reasonable control of RT, which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Competition, RT, in its sole discretion, may cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition, or invalidate any affected entries, subject to the approval of relevant State and Territory lottery and gaming authorities (as required) and applicable laws.
  13. Neither RT nor its or its related bodies corporates’ respective officers, employees, contractors, affiliates, representatives and associated agencies and companies are or will be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, direct, indirect, special or consequential loss, loss of opportunity or loss of profits), expense, damage, personal injury or death which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any negligence) arising out of, or in any way connected with the Competition or any prize (including, without limitation, delivery, acceptance or use of any prize), except for any liability which, by law, cannot be excluded, restricted or modified (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum liability allowable by law).
  14. RT may disclose entrants’ personal information to its contractors and agents to assist in conducting the Competition or communicating with entrants and to State and Territory lottery and gaming authorities or other regulatory bodies and winners’ names may be published as required under the relevant legislation.
  15. RT marketing activities are subject to the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
  16. In these Conditions, a reference to dollars or $ is to Australian currency and a reference to time is to Perth, Western Australia time.
  17. To the extent of any inconsistency between these Conditions and any other document or section comprising, or related to, the Competition, these Conditions will prevail.
  18. These Conditions and the Competition are governed by the laws of the State of Western Australia.  Nothing in these Conditions restricts, excludes or modifies your statutory rights, to the extent any such restriction, exclusion or modification is prohibited by law.
  19. RT reserves the right to change the duration or any other aspect of the Competition at any time, in which case the entries closure, short-listing, winner determination and any draw dates may also change.

 

Years 4 - 6 ‘Favourite Groundbreaker’

  1. These terms and conditions (Conditions) govern the Rio Tinto (RT) ‘Favourite Groundbreaker’ (Competition) which is conducted by Pilbara Iron Company (Services) Pty Ltd (ABN 35 107 210 248) (RT).
  2. All entries are made upon, and subject to, these Conditions, without alteration. Participation in the Competition is deemed acceptance of these Conditions.
  3. To the maximum extent permitted by law, RT’s decision regarding all aspects of the Competition (including, but not limited to, the marking and assessment of entries, determination of Eligible Entrants/valid entries and winners and the conduct of any draw) is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
  4. The Competition opens on Monday, 6 June 2016 and closes at 12:00am on Monday, 29 August 2016.

  7. RT will convene a panel of employees who will evaluate all entries submitted by Eligible Entrants to determine, by applying the relevant marking rubric, response accuracy. All entries that are assessed as being sufficiently accurate will qualify for entry into the random selection draw process. On or before Friday, 2 September 2016, at RT’s offices located at Central Park, 52-158 St Georges Terrace, Perth 6000 WA, an RT representative will collate all accurate entries into a database which will then be used in a random selection draw process to determine the winner. This process will be repeated for, to select one winner from, each Eligible School.
  8. Winners will be notified by email and/or telephone. The prize will be delivered to the winning student’s Eligible School for collection.
  9. Winners are solely responsible for the safe and proper use of their prize.

Years 7 - 9 ‘Innovation of the future Competition’

  1. These terms and conditions (Conditions) govern the Rio Tinto (RT) ‘Innovation of the future Competition’ (Competition) which is conducted by Pilbara Iron Company (Services) Pty Ltd (ABN 35 107 210 248) (RT).
  2. All entries are made upon, and subject to, these Conditions, without alteration. Participation in the Competition is deemed acceptance of these Conditions.
  3. To the maximum extent permitted by law, RT’s decision regarding all aspects of the Competition (including, but not limited to, the marking and assessment of entries, determination of Eligible Entrants/valid entries and winners and the conduct of any draw) is final and binding.  No correspondence will be entered into. 
  4. The Competition opens on Monday, 6 June 2016 and closes at 12:00am on Monday, 29 August 2016.

      1. attached it to their competition entry (if submitting to a teacher); or
      2. submitted it online at www.riotintogroundbreakers.com; and
    5. otherwise comply with these Conditions, (Eligible Entrants).
  6. Eligible Entrants may only submit one entry. Any entry that is, or may appear to be, rude, obscene, defamatory or offensive must not be submitted and, if submitted, will not be valid.

  1. These Terms and Conditions (Conditions) govern the RIO TINTO (RT) ‘A pivotal point in Pilbara history’ (Competition) for years 10, 11 and 12 which is conducted by Pilbara Iron Company (Services) Pty Ltd (ABN 35 107 210 248) (RT).
  2. All entries are made upon, and subject to, these Conditions, without alteration. Participation in the Competition is deemed acceptance of these Conditions.
  3. To the maximum extent permitted by law, RT’s decision regarding all aspects of the Competition (including, but not limited to, the marking and assessment of entries, determination of Eligible Entrants/valid entries and winners and the conduct of any draw) is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
  4. The Competition opens on Monday, 6 June 2016 and closes at 12:00am on Monday, 29 August 2016.

      2. submitted it online at www.riotintogroundbreakers.com; and
    5. otherwise comply with these Conditions, (Eligible Entrants).
  6. Eligible Entrants may only submit one entry. Any entry that is, or may appear to be, rude, obscene, defamatory or offensive must not be submitted and, if submitted, will not be valid.
